After the last Democratic debate Beto O’Rourke has kept up with his bombastic rhetoric on firearms and the 2nd Amendment. During an interview with CNN O’Rourke was pressed about how his gun confiscation plan would work. He advised the viewing audience that Americans would comply with the law. Continued to be pressed by the CNN reporter in the interview O’Rourke admits he would have police go door-to-door to confiscate those firearms.

This wasn’t well received by many in the 2A community nor by law enforcement officials. After Mr. O’Rourke’s bombastic and incendiary comments Police organizations have pushed back. Speaking with The Washington Free Beacon Police organizations have let there thoughts be known about Beto’s plan.

The National Fraternal Order of Police, which represents 330,000 sworn law enforcement officers—said Beto’s plan was unlikely to be constitutional but that Beto himself was unlikely to be elected.

In correspondence with The Washington Free Beacon Executive Director of FOP Jim Pasco laid out his thoughts on O’Rourke’s plan stating, “Mr. O’Rourke may not be aware that state and local police officers (who comprise more than 90% of all police in the U.S.) receive their orders from their local jurisdictions – not from the Federal government. Further, any such legislation, if it passed, would no doubt be vigorously litigated with a view to its apparent inconsistency with the Second Amendment.

In view of the foregoing, and in view of Mr. O’Rourke’s current standing in the polls, we do not view this as an issue we will have to grapple within the foreseeable future.”

AJ Louderback a sheriff that is apart of the National Sheriff Association also spoke to the Free Beacon concerning the gun confiscation plan.

He states, “I think he’s seriously misjudging the law enforcement response to what he wants to do. Many sheriffs would not comply with his plan. This guy’s plan is ridiculous. Everyone is looking for solutions to violent crime but this isn’t one of them. I’m not going to harass my citizens for owning guns.”

While also discussing the matter with the Free Beacon he called plan “unworkable and counterproductive.”

The National Association of Police Organizations had the harshest words for O’Rourke’s confiscation plan. This organization represents over $1,000 police organizations and 240,000 sworn officers. They stated O’Rourke’s plan is would violate officers constitutional oath.

Bill Johnson spoke with Free Beacon about O’Rourke’s plan stating, “It’s ironic that Beto O’Rourke, who was slamming police as ‘the new Jim Crow’ just a year ago, now finds a need for police when he wants to disarm individuals. Maybe poor Beto should spend less time live-streaming his visits to the dentist and attend a basics civics class instead. He’d be reminded that the very first law every police officer swears to uphold is the Constitution.”

Bill Johnson is alluding to comments that Beto O’Rourke made during his campaign bid for Senate last year. During a speech at Prairie View A&M University he akin law enforcement officers as the new Jim Crow. Among other comments critical of law enforcement and the criminal justice system.

Beto O’Rourke comments haven’t only gotten flak from the 2A community but, now law enforcement for suggestion a plan that could not be enforced. O’Rourke rhetoric has been bombastic and incendiary on many on topics during the Democratic debates. He is not providing any solution and only divisiveness into the debate.
