This morning the new trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife dropped. Afterlife is a direct sequel to the original 1984 Ghostbusters film. Check out the trailer above.

I will be purposely vague during my trailer breakdown not to destroy any surprises or Easter eggs. Now, to the trailer summary.

The sequel follows Callie and her children, Phoebe and Trevor as they discover their ghostbusting heritage. The family moves to a new town in Oklahoma after inheriting her father’s property. Once they move to their sleepy Oklahoma town paranormal activity is abundant. The town receives daily quakes from an unknown origin. Throughout the trailer we will see Phoebe and Trevor investigating the town and their new creepy home. During their investigations they find items from their grandfather’s paranormal past. This leads the two siblings to find out more about their grandfather and his equipment that has been left behind. Phoebe’s teacher Mr. Grooberson is there to help Phoebe fill in the blanks.

For the fans of the Ghostbusters movie you will see callbacks to the original film. When, I watched it I was very excited seeing the small surprises and Easter Eggs from the original. I definitely enjoyed hearing the sirens of the Ecto-1 one again. Ahh…memories.

The Ghostbusters: Afterlife trailer pays respect to the past while seeming to forge into the future of the franchise. This is only the first trailer so we have to be cautiously optimistic. I believe the movie is in the right hands. Jason Reitman has shown love for his father’s movie and the franchise. That respect and love for the source material is prevalent in this first trailer. Go check out the trailer for yourself.
